Greetings from the Singin1!

So, who am I, and why am I writing this blog?

I’m Randye Jones, AKA the Singin’ One. I’m a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, and am currently living in Iowa. Presently, I’m actively involved in the performance and research of Negro Spirituals.

As part of my professional development, I talk about and perform the music I’m studying. When this presents an opportunity to travel, I plan to use this blog to describe the experience.

My first journey chronicled here was to The Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium VIII .  The symposium was held in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, from July 10-13, 2011. I was selected to give a lecture-recital on interpreting Negro spirituals for that symposium.

IMG_1111While many of my trips have a professional element, some are pure explorations to see and experience as much as I can.  Since I prefer the freedom of driving, I do so as often as the circumstances permit.

I’m inviting you along for the ride, so to speak.  I’ll post pictures, videos, and notes about my journeys.  Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

And if you’d like to invite me to talk about my research or give a performance for your organization, please do contact me at research@artofthenegrospiritual.com or call 641-821-0188.
