So, who am I, and why am I writing this blog?
I’m Randye Jones, AKA the Singin’ One. I’m a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, just lived in Iowa for 18 years, and am now based in the Washington, DC, metro area. Presently, I’m actively involved in the performance and research of Negro Spirituals.
As part of my professional development, I talk about and perform the music I’m studying. When this presents an opportunity to travel, I plan to use this blog to describe the experience.
This site succeeds my two other travel blogs, Singin1 on the Road and Iowa?!?. I recently added content of both blogs to this one; however, I am leaving both on their current sites for the foreseeable future so their links remain active (plus I’ve discovered that a number of the images did not transfer over correctly, so until I can fix this, I need to keep the old blogs up).
While many of my trips have a professional element, some are pure explorations to see and experience as much as I can. I prefer the freedom of driving my car, the Silver Bullet (SB), so I do this as often as the circumstances permit.
I’m inviting you along for the ride, so to speak.
I’ll post pictures, videos, and notes about my journeys. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.
And if you’d like to invite me to talk about my research or give a performance for your organization, please do contact me at projects@artoftheconcertspiritual.com or call 641-821-0188.
